Using mathematical language

As the children had a visit from the nurse it was a great opportunity to talk
about how we measure and compare length, height and weight.
We found out that some of us were taller than some of our friends and shorter than others.

We used scales to find out whether objects were heavier or lighter. We found out that sometimes a big object can be lighter than a smaller object.

We investigated the length of objects in our environment by comparing them against a piece of ribbon. We were able to use mathematical language (heavy, heavier, heaviest, light, lighter, lightest) to compare the objects.

Please help your child by continuing to use these words
to compare length, height and weight at home.
You could have fun together using a height chart or tape measure
to see how fast your child is growing.
